What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Full-Stack Engineer position at Objective Arts?
We're looking for an engineer who is into AI coding tools
If you're using Claude Code or Cursor to 10x your output, building real AWS architectures (not just gluing services together), and you're tired of enterprise bureaucracy - keep reading.
Objective Arts - 23-year Chicago behavioral health analytics company. Small team. Real impact. No corporate nonsense.
The Unusual Part
80% of your time: Deep technical work with modern tools
20% of your time: Talking directly to the humans who use what you build
Yes, you'll be on customer calls. Yes, you'll explain technical concepts to healthcare providers.
If that sounds like a refreshing break from Sprint Planning Meeting #47 about the ticket backlog, we should talk.
The Stack
Java and Spring (all the flavors - Boot, Security, Data, Cloud)
AWS architecture - we mean real architecture decisions, not just "deploy to EC2"
Angular on the frontend
Modern tooling—we embrace Claude Code, Cursor, Warp, WindSurf; whatever makes you faster.
The Real Requirements
You use AI coding assistants, and you're eager to learn how to use them more effectively
You understand AWS at an architectural level—design patterns, trade-offs, and when NOT to use certain services. You use the CDK, for example.
You can context-switch between deep coding sessions and explaining "why the API is slow" to someone who doesn't know what an API is
You're allergic to corporate waste and love shipping actual working software
What You Won't Find Here
Scrum masters
Two-week sprint planning ceremonies
Layers of approval for a three-line code change
"That's not in the roadmap" as a conversation ender
Engineers who've never talked to a customer
What You Will Find
Direct impact - your code helps people recover from addiction and mental health challenges
Autonomy - we trust you to solve problems, not follow tickets
Modern tools - whatever makes you productive (Claude Code, Cursor, Zed, Warp - whatever)
Customer context - you'll actually understand why you're building what you're building
Compensation
$140K depending on experience
Education and certification bonuses
Full benefits package
The Dealbreakers
Remote-friendly (US-based); Chicago area a plus but not required
Full-time W-2 only (no contractors, no C2C, no staffing agencies)
Comfortable with customer interaction 4-6 hours/week (if this terrifies you, this isn't your role)
7 years of real engineering experience (we're not training juniors)
The Honest Truth
Most engineers bounce at "customer calls."
We need someone who sees customer interaction as context, not interruption. Someone who wants to understand the "why" behind what they're building.
If you're a senior engineer who's bored at BigCorp, tired of building features nobody uses, and curious about what it's like when customers actually talk to you about what you built - let's talk.
