The Office of Student Health and Wellbeing invites applications for the position of Medical Assistant for Oberlin College Student Health Services. The Medical Assistant is a highly skilled and compassionate healthcare professional who delivers both clinical and administrative support to ensure quality patient care. Working under the supervision of the director, this role contributes to efficient clinic operations, patient satisfaction, and adherence to clinical excellence and safety standards. The Medical Assistant performs patient assessments, assists with procedures, manages documentation, and supports both in-person and virtual care delivery in compliance with state scope-of-practice guidelines.


This is a full-time, 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff position. This individual reports to the Director of Oberlin College Student Health Services.


Administrative & Operational Duties

· Accurately record all clinical data and communications in the Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) system.

· Manage in-basket messages under provider direction and maintain confidentiality in all documentation.

· Perform front desk and administrative workflows as assigned (e.g., patient registration, scheduling, MyChart requests, check-in/check-out, cash handling, and phone triage).

· Track and follow up on diagnostic orders, referrals, and appointments; collect co-pays as appropriate.

· Monitor and replenish clinical inventory, order supplies as needed, and ensure proper disposal of biohazard materials.

· Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and departmental competency reviews.

Patient Interaction & Education

· Greet, escort, and prepare patients for exams or procedures, fostering a welcoming and respectful environment.

· Document patient history, chief complaints, and family or social concerns as directed by the provider.

· Reinforce provider instructions and support patients in understanding their care plans and follow-up instructions.

· Provide assistance and education during telehealth or virtual visits, including pre-visit setup, troubleshooting, and pre-charting.

Clinical Support

· Obtain and document vital signs, including respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and temperature.

· Support the provider in patient examinations and clinical procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.

· Administer prescribed medications (oral, injection, topical, etc.) within the Medical Assistant’s scope of practice and per state and institutional regulations.

· Recognize and promptly report significant changes in patient condition or response to treatment.

· Prepare examination rooms and ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and proper functioning of medical equipment and supplies.

· Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and preparation for laboratory testing as needed.

· Maintain a safe, supportive, and compliant clinical environment always.Professional Standards

· Adhere to all legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities of the Medical Assistant role.

· Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and commitment to service excellence in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.

· Escalate issues appropriately to providers, supervisors, or internal resources.

· Maintain up-to-date clinical skills and certifications in accordance with departmental requirements.

· Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support patient care and operational needs.


Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.


Certification: Current Medical Assistant certification (e.g., CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred.

Experience: Prior clinical experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Skills:

· Strong clinical and administrative competencies.

· Proficiency with EHR/EMR systems.

· Excellent communication and organizational skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.
