Position Summary
The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely administration of medications to residents of Emerald Gardens Home in accordance with physician orders, facility policy, and the Florida Administrative Code governing assisted living facilities (Rule 58A-5, F.A.C.). The Med Tech works under the supervision of the Wellness Nurse and plays a key role in supporting resident health, safety, and quality of life.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Administer medications to residents accurately and on schedule, per the Medication Observation Record (MOR) and physician orders.
Document all medication administration, refusals, and PRN medications timely and accurately in the MAR/MOR.Observe residents for adverse reactions, side effects, or changes in condition and report findings immediately to the Wellness Nurse or RN.
Maintain proper storage, labeling, security, and inventory of all medications in compliance with state regulations.Conduct routine medication counts (including controlled substances) and reconcile any discrepancies.
Coordinate with the pharmacy regarding new orders, refills, discontinuations, and discrepancies.
Assist residents with self-administration of medication when appropriate and as permitted by facility policy.
Maintain accurate, confidential resident records in accordance with HIPAA.
Communicate effectively with nursing staff, caregivers, residents, and families regarding medication-related needs.
Participate in facility emergency preparedness procedures, including medication-related protocols during evacuations or emergencies.
Assist with general resident care duties as needed and as staffing requires.
Complete required in-service training and maintain all certifications in good standing.
Qualifications
Successful completion of a Florida-approved Medication Technician (Med Tech) training course.
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Minimum 6 months experience in an assisted living, long-term care, or similar healthcare setting preferred.
Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Clearwritten and verbal communication skills.Ability to remain calm and responsive in emergency situations.
Physical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with resident mobility as needed.
Manual dexterity sufficient to handle medications, packaging, and documentation.
