The Part Time STEAM Instructor and Team Coach will support Oakwood School’s design and engineering program for students in grades 8–12. This role combines teaching, coaching, and hands-on project mentorship in a fast-paced, student-driven environment focused on design, fabrication, and real-world problem solving.
The Part Time STEAM Instructor and Team Coach will guide students through open-ended projects and has experience working with fabrication tools, CAD, and iterative design processes. The Part Time STEAM Instructor and Team Coach will have access to a fully equipped fabrication space, including 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, and shop tools, allowing ideas to move quickly from concept to physical prototype. In addition to the classroom, Part Time STEAM Instructor and Team Coach will coach competitive engineering teams that take on real-world challenges, with practices for both JPL and Hydrogen taking place after school. Over time, Part Time STEAM Instructor and Team Coach will play a direct role in shaping how students think, build, and approach problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach 1–2 STEAM courses per year (typically one class per semester). Classes run between 8:45 AM and 3:45 PM, Monday – Friday.
- Courses focus on design, engineering, and hands-on fabrication.
- Guide students through the full design process: ideation, prototyping, testing, and iteration.
- Support student-driven projects and independent work.
- Head Coach: JPL Invention Challenge Team (August–December).
- Assistant Coach: Hydrogen Fuel Cell Race Team (December–June).
- Mentor students through the design-build-test process.
- Support team organization, timelines, and competition preparation.
- Attend and help run after-school practices from 3:45 pm until 6:45 pm Monday- Friday and weekend competitions.
REQUIREMENTS
- Some teaching experience is required
- Previous experience with teaching middle and high school is preferred
- Must have a background in engineering, design, fabrication, or a related field.
- Must be proficient with CAD (Fusion 360 preferred)
- Must have experience with 3D printing, CNC machines, laser cutters, and general shop tools
- Must be available to work Part Time (about 20 hours a week) from August 2026 until June 2027 during the hours 8:45 AM and 6:45 PM, Monday – Friday for classes and after school programs
- May also be required to work weekends coaching competitions
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills are required
- Ability to mentor students through open-ended, project-based work
