The Opportunity
We are seeking a Director of Accounting to lead Oakwood Creative Care’s financial operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and sustainability while actively contributing to strategic planning as a member of the senior leadership team.
The Director of Accounting will oversee all aspects of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis, working closely with the President & CEO, the Board of Directors, and program leaders to ensure sound financial decision-making that supports our mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis.
- Manage the general ledger, financial transactions, and fund accounting practices.
- Supervise Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and payroll administration.
- Oversee grants, contracts, and restricted funding to ensure compliance and reporting accuracy.
- Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Partner with leadership to support resource allocation, funding strategies, and organizational planning.
- Provide timely, accurate financial reporting to the Board of Directors.
- Lead annual audits, tax filings (IRS Form 990, 1099s), and ensure compliance with GAAP/FASB standards.
- Supervise and mentor finance department staff.
- Promote a positive, mission-driven culture within the organization.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
- Experience: 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB standards, and nonprofit fund accounting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel power-user required) and Quickbooks Online.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise fiscal responsibility.

Working Conditions
- Position based at our Headquarters Administrative Office in Mesa, AZ.
- Limited travel between Oakwood community sites may be required.
