Job Title: Oakwood Techniques Program Assistant
Reports to: Program Coordinator
Status:
- Part Time during the school year (Mid August-Mid- June) 25 hours per week. Must be available Tuesdays and Thursdays 12pm-6:30pm
- Summer: Full Time (Mid-June-Mid-August) 40 hours per week Monday-Friday
Rate: $20 per hour
JOIN OUR TEAM! Oakwood Community Center is looking for someone passionate about youth arts education to join Oakwood Techniques as our Program Assistant. This is a wonderful opportunity to work alongside our Youth Programs Coordinator in running our youth performing arts program as it continues to grow. The ideal candidate is someone upbeat with a positive attitude. Someone who is enthusiastic about serving in a community that has a historically underserved population. Ideal candidates should demonstrate a willingness to cultivate an environment rich in diversity, equity, and inclusion while exploring the power of arts education in youth.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, implementation, support, and evaluation of Oakwood Techniques After School and Summer Theatre program.
- Work with the Program Coordinator & Guest Teaching Artists to provide trauma informed arts education to students
- Document students’ daily experience (i.e. attendance, behavior, workshops attended, performance progress, etc.)
- Ongoing parent engagement & communication
- Additional Community Center duties as assigned including but not limited to: help with mailings, basic building maintenance, community outreach, etc.
- Create dynamic social media posts to promote programs
- Administrative work as assigned by the Program Coordinator
- Uphold Oakwood Community Center’s mission to bring neighbors together and build bridges among grassroots organizations in the city of Troy, New York
Requirements and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience working with youth in under invested communities
- Desire to learn how to manage complex arts education programming
- High levels of integrity, honesty, good judgment, respect and discretion in communication with constituents and stakeholders at all levels including students and parents
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to work some weekend and evening hours
- Candidates with experience studying and/or teaching performing arts (ideally acting, theatre, dance and/or music) will be highly considered.
