What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Assistant Circulation position at Oakton Community College?
Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under supervision, assist students, faculty and staff as it relates to Circulation and Interlibrary Loan.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in circulation as required including maintaining statistics for gate count, course reserves and other library use statistics.
- Assist students, staff and faculty in the use of the online catalog to find items at the Oakton libraries and to request items from other I-Share online libraries. Process requests for items in both Alma and OCLC.
- Assist students, staff and faculty in the use of equipment necessary to retrieve and copy course reserve materials and other information.
- Provide data entry on the library computer system.
- Process overdue notices.
- Make student identification cards.
- Answer and provide information to incoming telephone calls.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
Functional supervision is received from the Coordinator of Access Services. Administrative supervision is received from the Dean of Library.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional supervision may be exercised over student employees.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications and Working Conditions:
- A high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and experience can be acquired is required.
- One year of library and/or related experience where comparable skills and abilities can be obtained is required.
- Ability to use a computer to enter, retrieve and manipulate data is required.
- Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the College community at large.
Physical Demands:
Lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus. Work is performed in a general office environment. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

SALARY: $19.24
HOURS: Monday - Friday 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm; Summer Hours Monday - Thursday 1:45 pm - 8:00 pm
