Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under general supervision, plan, direct, and implement academic support to increase student success. Increase awareness of and develop appropriate assessment tools to measure student engagement, learning outcomes, and student success. Provide key programmatic support for all retention and student success interventions and initiatives.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage faculty hiring process for faculty hires; track and ensure faculty meet Oakton's minimum titles and qualifications to serve as tutors. Maintain all employee tenure, seniority, and compensation records for faculty.
  • Align academic support and coaching with curricular offerings (e.g., ESL, writing, RoadMath, STEM, Library, etc.). Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration on the implementation and ongoing academic/co-curricular support to various strategic academic and student services initiatives (e.g., ADRC, engineering pathways, Emory Williams).
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise faculty, professional, and/or student tutors. Provide onboarding, continuing education, ongoing coaching. Conduct regularly scheduled observations and evaluations to provide feedback and support. Foster community and connection through peer observations, mentorship programs, collaboration projects, tutor meetings/discussions, etc.
  • Responsible for scheduling faculty, professional, and student tutors for academic support based on current best practices and student academic needs for online, asynchronous, and face-to-face tutoring modalities. Respond to ongoing scheduling needs throughout the academic year to provide effective and efficient maintenance of student services.
  • Serve as departmental contact for technology platform implementation, development, and management (e.g., customer relationship management system, learning management system, student information system, website). Identify and incorporate new functionality and enhancements to improve daily/operational functions.
  • Support progress and completion of departmental projects and learning outcomes initiatives. Assist in compiling, analyzing, and utilizing assessment data to strengthen and improve programs and services.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate targeted and innovative programming tailored to diverse learners (i.e., academic workshops, creating supportive learning environments, classroom engagement, outreach and support, etc.).
  • Provide end-user technical training and support for faculty, professional, and student tutors. Manage user accounts, profiles, permissions, and onboarding for new users.
  • Assist students in developing academic skills, focusing on current placement and/or academic performance data. Provide individual academic coaching and tutoring as necessary.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Supervision Received:

Administrative supervision is received from the Director of Student Success and Academic Interventions.

Functional supervision is received from the Manager of Academic Success and Support.

Supervision Exercised:

Functional supervision is exercised over tutors (15-20 PT). Functional supervision may be exercised over front desk student employees in the absence of the Office Coordinator.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Education, College Student Personnel, or a related area is required.
  • Three years of experience in leading, training, or serving as an educator. preferably within an academic resource or training setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills with an ability to successfully work in a diverse academic setting and with students from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills. Incumbents must be able to give and receive advice and opinions and interact with individuals in situations requiring sensitivity and tact.
  • Ability to use emotional intelligence (EI) to respond appropriately to challenging situations involving students and community members.
  • Aptitude for learning and training others using different technology systems.
  • Functional experience with an integrated student information system and/or customer relations management (CRM) software.
  • Proficient in creating, maintaining, using and manipulating spreadsheets and extracts downloaded into spreadsheets from systems (Banner, Zogotech, databases), and managing administrative technical functions. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft products. Strong written and computer skills are essential for preparing required reports, analysis, and documentation of outcomes.
  • Technology competence, including Google Suite, MS Office suite, database programs, and additional college-supported technology platforms used for employee training, troubleshooting, and adapting policies and procedures.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in leading, training, or serving as an educator within an academic resource or training setting.


Working Conditions:

General office conditions. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions. Ability to travel between campuses once a month and work an evening shift one day per week, consistent with department and/or student needs.

Additional Information:

HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:45 pm Ability to travel between campuses once a month and work an evening shift one day per week, consistent with department and/or student needs.

SALARY: The minimum starting salary is $30.40 per hour which equates to $61,242 annualized based on Oakton's summer hours schedule.

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have a hybrid schedule option available after 30 working days.
