Full-Time (12-month), Exempt, Category 2

Oaks Christian School is looking for a strong Christ-follower who senses a calling to serve as our new Learning Specialist with a special emphasis within our TK-5th grades. The role of the Learning Specialist is to provide academic and behavioral support and instructional strategies to ensure a successful educational environment for all students. The Learning Specialist supports elementary students with learning strategies; provides individual instruction as appropriate; serves as a resource for faculty; and serves as a resource for the greater Oaks Christian community.

The Learning Specialist will report directly to the Senior Learning Specialist. As this is a new role to Oaks Christian School, the person filling this role will have the opportunity to help shape an exciting and creative future for the program while building upon the school’s 26 years of academic excellence, artistic expression, and athletic distinction. Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Work directly with the Reading Specialist and faculty to coordinate intervention for struggling students.
  • Counsel families on learning support and assessment accommodations.
  • Organize and oversee student accommodations and needs.
  • Work directly with students on topics such as study skills, executive functioning, and self-advocacy skills.
  • Support the admissions and enrollment process as related to students with learning differences.
  • Act as a liaison with private testing agencies and local school districts as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, outside professionals, and parents to improve academic growth and success for all students.
  • Assume an active role in Student Support Meetings.
  • Collaborate with the school-wide ROAR Team to promote an integrated approach to learning support.
  • Regularly attend conferences (i.e. CESA Symposium, SAIS Academic Support Conference) and other professional development events to remain current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to create behavioral interventions to support student’s learning.
  • Be aware of the educational, spiritual, physical, social-emotional needs of the school community and develop plans for meeting those needs.
  • Create and embrace meaningful connections with families.
  • Communicate proactively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Participate in parent education programs.
  • Agree and support the mission, vision, and core values of the school.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Senior Learning Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in school psychology, clinical psychology, educational psychology, or related field.
  • At least four years of experience as a school psychologist or in a related role.
  • Familiarity with legal responsibilities of independent schools related to IEP and 504 plans.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and parents.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor.
