Head Middle School Football Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director and/or School Principal
Position Summary
The Head Middle School Football Coach is responsible for organizing, leading, and supervising the school’s football program in a manner that supports student growth, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success. The coach will develop fundamental football skills, promote positive character traits, and ensure a safe and inclusive athletic environment aligned with district and school expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership

Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the middle school football program

Establish team rules, expectations, and standards consistent with school and district policies

Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes

Promote sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork at all times
Coaching & Player Development

Teach fundamental football skills appropriate to the middle school level

Plan and conduct safe, well-organized practices and conditioning sessions

Emphasize player safety, proper technique, and injury prevention

Ensure equitable participation and development opportunities for all players
Student-Athlete Support

Reinforce the importance of academic performance and positive behavior

Monitor eligibility and attendance in collaboration with school administration

Communicate expectations clearly to players and parents/guardians
Game & Event Management

Prepare teams for interscholastic competition

Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities
-
Coordinate game logistics, including equipment, uniforms, and transportation
-
Maintain appropriate conduct during games and model professionalism
Staff & Communication

Assist in selecting, supervising, and evaluating assistant coaches (if applicable)

Communicate effectively with the Athletic Director, administrators, parents, and staff

Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions
Equipment & Facilities

Inventory, issue, and maintain athletic equipment and uniforms

Ensure facilities are left clean, secure, and in good condition after use
Qualifications
Required
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
Knowledge of football fundamentals and rules
-
Experience coaching or playing football at the youth, middle school, or high school level
-
Ability to work effectively with middle school-aged students
-
Completion of district-required coaching certifications, background checks, and safety training
Preferred
-
Previous middle school coaching experience
-
Teaching certificate or experience working in an educational setting

CPR/First Aid certification
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and move for extended periods during practices and games

Ability to demonstrate football skills and drills

Ability to lift and carry athletic equipment
