Note: This is a seasonal part-time position, lasting till August 9, 2026. We are looking to hire around 5 - 10 people for this position.
Position Summary
The Summer Cashier is a seasonal position (May - August) with the possibility of transitioning into a regular part-time (daytime) position after the event concludes. Guest Services Cashiers serve as the first point of contact for our guests at the Zoo’s entrances and play a key role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone who visits the zoo. They can act as Greeters, Line Captains, Rovers within the Zoo, and Cashiers for both General Admission entry and Oakland Zoo Member entry. These essential members of our team help connect folks to amazing experiences at the Zoo.

Essential Job Duties
- Provide excellent service to all Zoo guests and fellow Zoo Staff, supporting a friendly and helpful environment.
- Conduct cash, credit, and occasional check transactions with careful attention to details and accuracy
- Provide efficient and responsive support to all guests.
- Be aware of basic Zoo information to answer guests’ questions.
- Maintain an organized workspace and adhere to proper cash-handling procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

- Ability to read, count and write accurately.
- Able to engage with guests and coworkers with positive, efficient interactions.
- Able to follow policies and procedures as taught and show attentiveness to work.
- Able to communicate with customers, co-workers, and management.
- Possesses basic math and computer skills.
- Able to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Cash-handling experience.
- Previous customer service experience.
- Prior sales experience.
- Work in indoor office conditions with exposure to moderate noise levels
- Work outdoor environments in various weather conditions, including inclement outdoor weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind and rain.
- Able to bend and twist, lift and carry objects up to 35 lbs, stand, kneel, sit, walk, bend, stoop and speak regularly and for long periods of time (up to 8 hour shifts or more)
- Able to work comfortably in confined space and with low levels of light
- Ability to navigate Zoo grounds
