Job Summary
The Oakland Yacht Club is in Alameda, California, along the Alameda/Oakland Estuary, and is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the Bay Area. It was incorporated in 1913 and was originally on the Oakland side of the estuary. The goal of all the staff at the Oakland Yacht Club is to exceed the members’ expectations for friendliness and service. The Oakland Yacht Club is seeking a Line Cook to join the team. In this position, you will be responsible for preparing delicious meals for our members. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Produce meals according to established standards and members' desires.
- Set up the kitchen with the necessary tools and equipment
- Prepare and present food appealingly for both platted and buffet meals.
- Maintain appropriate levels of inventory and restock when necessary
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation and prep area.
- Responsible for adherence to standards for sanitation and safe food handling by the health department and OSHA.
- Participate in daily kitchen opening and closing procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned by the head chef or management
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred
- ServeSafe or Food Handler’s Certification
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
- Able to communicate with others to convey information effectively in English.
- Comprehend basic culinary terms and techniques of prepping and cooking.
- Ability to remain calm and thrive under pressure
- Excellent time management skills
- Must possess knife skills and the ability to adjust preparations for flavor and accommodate customers' needs promptly.
- Able to cook proteins to pre-determined temperatures
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing for long periods and lifting up to40 pounds
