IN THIS ROLE:

Make a real difference for young children and families across Oakland County as a Family Support Specialist! In this role, you’ll be the trusted guide who helps families navigate enrollment into high-quality early childhood programs and services like GSRP, Head Start, and home visiting while connecting them to meaningful community supports. You’ll combine relationship-building with purpose-driven systems work to ensure children are prioritized and families are supported. WHAT WE NEED:

  • Support families in navigating and completing enrollment for early childhood education programs, including Head Start and GSRP, countywide using a common application system and prioritization process.
  • Provide compassionate, culturally responsive care coordination to families through phone calls, emails, text messages and in-person interactions.
  • Support collaborative recruitment and enrollment efforts, ensuring families are informed of program options and guided to make choices best aligned to their needs.
  • Assist families with developmental screening processes, including guidance, follow up and referrals as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential data entry and documentation in database systems to support enrollment tracking, screening compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Implement the GSRP prioritization and eligibility verification process with fidelity, balancing compliance with a family-centered approach that ensures equitable access, especially for families with the highest needs.
  • Identify, compile and share community resources and referrals with families, including mental health, public health, social services and others.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external partners to ensure coordinated and equitable services for all Oakland County families.
  • Attend and support outreach and recruitment events to increase awareness of early childhood programs and support family engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood, family studies, social work, psychology, education, counseling, human development, sociology, youth development, nonprofit management, public administration, nursing, infant mental health, or related health or human services field. with a minimum of one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Familiarity with/knowledge of early childhood programs and services.
  • Experience working with young children and/or families in early care and education settings preferred.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Ability to properly operate required office equipment such as a personal computer, fax machine, copier, and the like.

SALARY DETAILS:

$56,612 - $65,653 salary based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential to earn up to

$70,701 after employment with Oakland Schools.

Exempt position / 12-month work year
