Assistant Production Manager

As the Assistant Production Manager, you'll partner closely with the Production Manager to ensure daily production goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with state regulations and company standards. You'll help lead a high-performing team, optimize production workflows, maintain product quality, and foster a culture built on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do
As the Assistant Production Manager, you'll support the daily operations of the production department while helping ensure efficiency, quality, compliance, and team success.
Your responsibilities include:
- Assist in leading all day-to-day cannabis production operations, including weighing, trimming, packaging, labeling, and finished product preparation.
- Supervise, coach, train, and develop production team members while fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Assist with scheduling production staff to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient workflow.
- Monitor daily production schedules and adjust priorities as needed to meet production goals and deadlines.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback and partner with Human Resources on coaching, corrective action, and employee development when appropriate.
- Serve as a resource for team members by addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and promoting open communication.
- Review payroll, verify timesheets, and ensure accurate tracking of attendance, overtime, and hours worked each pay period.
- Monitor production equipment and coordinate maintenance or repairs to minimize downtime.
- Perform routine quality control inspections throughout the production process to ensure products consistently meet company quality standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and maximize production yields.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), state cannabis regulations, and safety requirements.
- Conduct routine compliance and safety audits, reporting findings and corrective actions to the Production Manager.
- Assist with inventory management, reconciliation, and seed-to-sale tracking using METRC or other inventory management systems.
- Prepare production reports and communicate production metrics, inventory updates, and operational issues to the Production Manager.
- Collaborate with Cultivation, Distribution, Inventory, Quality Assurance, and other departments to ensure seamless production operations.
- Serve as the department leader in the absence of the Production Manager.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs.
What We're Looking For

Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s Degree and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in manufacturing, production, food processing, pharmaceutical, cannabis, or another regulated industry preferred.
- Experience leading and motivating teams in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with cannabis production equipment, manufacturing processes, and regulatory compliance preferred.
- Experience using seed-to-sale inventory systems such as METRC preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- High level of professionalism, accountability, flexibility, and integrity.
- Ability to maintain productivity while performing repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Must meet all requirements to obtain and maintain New Jersey cannabis affiliation.
- Valid driver's license required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position assists with the direct supervision of production team members. Responsibilities include training, onboarding, scheduling, coaching, performance management, payroll review, attendance monitoring, employee development, and partnering with Human Resources on corrective action when necessary. The Assistant Production Manager is expected to foster a safe, productive, and compliant work environment while supporting the Production Manager in achieving departmental goals.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to remain standing for extended periods, including shifts of 8 to 10 hours.
- Frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds or more and regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and movements throughout the workday.
- Ability to work safely in a production environment while adhering to all company safety procedures and policies.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
