About Oakland Leaf 

Oakland Leaf was founded in 2001 by a collective of East Oakland educators intent on empowering youth voice. For more than 25 years, Oakland Leaf has evolved into a highly regarded leader in youth development and out-of-school time learning. We facilitate culturally relevant expanded learning programming for approximately 1,300 K–12 East Oakland students through seven afterschool programs at public elementary and middle schools, one paid internship program for high school students, and two 5-week summer camps. Our programming emphasizes social and emotional learning, creative expression, critical thinking, leadership development, social justice, and college and career readiness grounded in our core values of Love in Action, Cultivation, Community, Youth Voice, and Critical Thinking.

 

Program Overview

Oakland Leaf's SEEDS Afterschool Programs serve over 1,000 elementary and middle school students across seven Oakland schools five days a week during the academic year. Through three interconnected pillars: Social Emotional Learning, Enrichment, and Academic Support.  SEEDS provides a holistic, asset-based program that is designed to build academic confidence, social-emotional skills, identity, and a deep sense of belonging, preparing young people to thrive in high school and beyond as compassionate, resilient community leaders.

 

Position Overview

The Elementary Age Expanded Learning Program (EA ELP) Coordinator is the operational and cultural leader of an assigned Oakland Leaf expanded learning site serving TK through 5th grade students.  The EA ELP Coordinator is responsible for the quality of programming, the development of frontline staff, the accuracy of compliance documentation, and the strength of relationships with families and school partners at their assigned site.

 

The ELP Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Programs.

 

Specific Duties & responsibilities

Site Operations & Program Quality (35%)

  • Own day-to-day site operations including daily schedules, program execution, space management, snack and meal coordination, and a safe, welcoming environment for every student who walks through the door
  • Ensure program fidelity to Oakland Leaf's framework and core values across all activities and all staff at the site
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs and informal observations including identifying what is working, what needs adjustment, and what requires escalation to the Associate Director
  • Manage site-level logistics including materials, supplies, and field trips
  • Maintain a physically safe and emotionally supportive program environment responding to student behavior, conflict, and family concerns with care, consistency, and professionalism

 

Compliance & Enrollment Management (20%)

  • Own attendance documentation accuracy across the site ensuring daily attendance is taken, recorded, and submitted correctly and on time in compliance with CDE requirements
  • Manage site enrollment including maintaining current rosters, tracking waitlists, communicating with families about enrollment status, and proactively addressing attendance gaps
  • Monitor enrollment targets and alert the Associate Director early when numbers are at risk with a proposed plan of action
  • Ensure all compliance documentation including incident reports, field trip forms, and parent communications is completed accurately and filed appropriately

 

Staff Supervision & Development (25%)

  • Directly supervise Assistant Coordinators and Program Instructors providing regular check-ins, clear expectations, developmental feedback, and accountability for performance
  • Build a team culture at the site that is warm, high-expectations, and rooted in Oakland Leaf's values where staff feel supported, challenged, and proud of the work they do
  • Partner with the Quality & Training Senior Manager on staff development ensuring all site staff participate in required training sequences and that observation feedback is being applied in practice
  • Identify high-potential staff and bring those observations to the Associate Director to contribute to Oakland Leaf's internal promotion pathway
  • Manage staff schedules, coverage plans, and substitute coordination ensuring the site is always appropriately staffed and ratios are maintained

 

Family & School Partnerships (15%)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families at the site including communicating enrollment information, program updates, student concerns, and event invitations with care, clarity, and consistency
  • Build and maintain a positive, trust-based relationship with the school principal and site liaison including serving as Oakland Leaf's day-to-day presence at the school and a reliable partner in the school community
  • Represent Oakland Leaf's values and program quality in all interactions with school administration, families, and community partners
  • Coordinate with school staff on scheduling, shared spaces, student transitions, and any site-level concerns that affect the expanded learning program

 

Additional duties may be assigned by the Associate Director or Director of Programs.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to Oakland Leaf's mission and belief in the power of youth leadership and equity in education
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in expanded learning, youth development, or a related field  with direct experience supervising staff or leading a program site
  • Demonstrated ability to manage program operations, maintain compliance documentation, and hold staff accountable in a fast-moving site environment
  • Working knowledge of CDE expanded learning compliance requirements including attendance documentation, enrollment management, and incident reporting
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with families, school partners, and frontline staff
  • Highly organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously without dropping compliance or quality
  • Experience working with elementary or middle school youth in an expanded learning, school-based, or community program setting
  • High cultural competency and a commitment to building inclusive, youth-centered program cultures
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and attendance tracking or enrollment management systems

 

Education & Experience

  • Experience: 2–3 years in expanded learning, youth development, or education; experience coordinating or leading a program site a plus
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, Social Work, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered; Child Development Permit or comparable credential a plus

 

Working conditions/physical demands

  • On-site position, daily presence at the assigned expanded learning site required during program hours
  • Hours typically align with the school day and afterschool hours; occasional evenings for family events and organizational celebrations
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs for program setup and activity materials
  • Ability to be on your feet and actively engaged with students and staff throughout the program day

 

Compensation

  • $67,000–$80,000 annual salary, depending on experience
