Chronic Patient Care Technician (PCT) β Dialysis
Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and patient-focused Chronic Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our dialysis team. The PCT plays a vital role in providing safe and effective dialysis treatments to patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) in an outpatient setting. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT is responsible for preparing patients and equipment for treatment, monitoring patients during dialysis, and supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare dialysis machines and treatment stations according to facility policies and procedures.
- Obtain and record patient vital signs, weight, and treatment information before, during, and after dialysis treatments.
- Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Cannulate arteriovenous (AV) fistulas and grafts according to training and facility protocols.
- Monitor patients throughout treatment and promptly report any changes in condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Assist patients with comfort, mobility, and activities related to dialysis treatment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized treatment environment.
- Follow infection control practices and safety standards at all times.
- Document patient treatment data accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
- Disinfect and maintain dialysis equipment according to established protocols.
- Provide excellent customer service and support to patients and their families.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service education, and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification within required timeframes.
- Previous dialysis or patient care experience preferred.
- Current BLS/CPR certification required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or assist patients as needed.
- Basic computer and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) year of chronic outpatient dialysis experience.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
