General Summary
Are you ready to take on a hands-on leadership role that keeps critical County infrastructure running smoothly? Under limited supervision, you’ll perform inspections, respond to emergencies, and ensure safe, efficient daily operations that keep essential services functioning for the community.
What You’ll Do
- Perform inspections, review reports, and recommend corrective actions
- Respond to complaints and perform emergency repairs as needed
- Work safely in environments that may include below ground or confined spaces
- Keep accurate daily records and utilize Countywide/department software
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs water system facilities.
- Maintains system integrity by locating, testing, and inspecting new construction, as well as existing structures such as gate wells, fire hydrants, stopping boxes and water mains.
- Takes samples from water mains for bacteria and performs hydrostatic tests on water mains.
- Maintains fire hydrants including upgrading, repairing traffic damage and winterizing.
- Raises and repairs gate wells as needed or instructed.
- Operates and maintains leak, pipe, and metal detection equipment, as well as dump trucks, tractors, loaders, and pumps.
- Performs flow testing to evaluate fire flow protection.
- Uses safety equipment to avoid hazards.
- Responsible for following State of Michigan standards and requirements in operating and maintaining the water supply system.
- Participate in On-Call and On-Call Alternate rotations as assigned
- Remain available for after-hours emergencies, storms, and operational issues
- Your work keeps essential public infrastructure operating safely and reliably

What You'll Need
- Possess a high school diploma or have completed the state requirements for a GED certificate.
- Must have had three (3) years of full-time experience in sewer, storm drain and/or water system maintenance.
- When assigned to the following units, must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license: Water Resource Recovery Systems Control Retention Treatment Basins Cross Connection
- Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
