Summary of Purpose
Oakland Community College is seeking a full-time Biology instructor who will participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses, and other experiences that result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the strategic plan of the program and college.
Anticipated start date: August 2025
$62,440 - $70,857 Starting Base Salary ($62,440 - $112,678 full salary range for the 2025-26 Salary Schedule).
Potential for additional pay:
Overload – 60% over base

Knowledge and Skills Required

- Experience and interest in teaching first- and second-year biology courses, particularly introductory biology, cellular and molecular biology, and organismal biology
- Experience in curriculum development for college-level lecture and laboratory components
- Willingness to teach some evening sections
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff
- Experience and interest in course assessment
- Willingness to coordinate adjunct sections, books, and lab materials for courses as necessary
- Interest in reviewing course materials and lab manuals to adopt for personal and adjunct sections
- Willingness to participate in professional development and committee work that serves the academic or college communities
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Ability to be a team player in a multi-cultural and diverse working environment
- Experience working jointly with laboratory support staff
- Proficiency using learning management systems (e.g., D2L or Canvas) for course delivery and/or assessment
Minimum Education and Experience
EDUCATION: Master's degree or higher in Biology
EXPERIENCE: Two years full time (or equivalent) of recent experience teaching freshman- and sophomore-level biology is preferred. Community college teaching preferred.
