Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician – Filling supports the accurate and timely processing, filling, packaging, and documentation of medication orders under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, OptioRx policies, and pharmacy procedures. This role performs assigned pharmacy technician tasks, supports inventory control and patient service, and escalates questions or concerns to the pharmacist, Lead Pharmacy Technician, General Manager, or other designated leadership as appropriate. This position is responsible for maintaining accuracy, professionalism, confidentiality, and patient safety while supporting efficient pharmacy workflow.
essential duties
- Read, interpret, process, fill, label, and package prescription orders accurately, including new prescriptions, refills, e-prescriptions, insurance adjudication, DUR flags, and prior authorization support.
- Select appropriate drug products; count, measure, package, and store medications, including items requiring special handling, in accordance with applicable requirements and under pharmacist supervision.
- Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations and maintain accurate prescription, patient, inventory, and pharmacy documentation.
- Support medication inventory activities by organizing, rotating, storing, and communicating inventory needs in accordance with OptioRx procedures.
- Meet established daily productivity goals, performance expectations, accuracy standards, and pharmacy quotas while completing assigned filling tasks, and promptly notify the pharmacist, Lead Pharmacy Technician, General Manager, or other designated leadership of barriers, discrepancies, delays, or questions.
- Follow daily work assignments, workflow priorities, and instructions provided by the pharmacist, Lead Pharmacy Technician, General Manager, or other designated leadership.
- Assist with patient, provider, or internal inquiries within assigned scope by gathering required information, routing inquiries appropriately, and escalating matters as needed.
- Communicate courteously with patients, providers, and team members while referring questions, concerns, or service issues to the appropriate resource in accordance with pharmacy procedures.
- Follow pharmacy policies, standard operating procedures, HIPAA requirements, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Report product incidents, medication errors, discrepancies, safety concerns, or other issues as required by pharmacy policy and applicable procedures.
- Assist with audits, inspections, surveys, quality activities, and performance improvement efforts as requested and within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and compliant work area that supports accurate filling, dispensing, and pharmacy operations.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, accountability, collaboration, and technical competence while contributing to OptioRx’s patient-focused culture.

- Assist with special projects, inventory counts, meetings, and operational support tasks as assigned.
- Participate in cross-training or department training activities as assigned to meet business, coverage, and patient care needs.
qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Valid and active State Pharmacy Technician License required; prior pharmacy technician experience preferred.
- Ability to learn and use pharmacy management systems, Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, internet applications, and related pharmacy/business equipment.
- Familiarity with pharmacy practices, legal requirements, prescription information and calculations, drug identification, generic equivalents, packaging, labeling, handling, and storage preferred.
- Strong communication, attention to detail, accuracy, organization, confidentiality, adaptability, and interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to follow established procedures, complete assigned tasks accurately, and escalate questions or concerns appropriately.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced pharmacy environment while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

- Ability to continuously stand or sit for extended periods, bend or squat occasionally, and lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
