Overview
Oak View Group is currently searching for a full-time Head Sports Turf Manager for the Grounds Department at Subaru Park, home to the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer and the Philadelphia Union II. The grounds department is responsible for the upkeep of Subaru Park, WSFS Bank Sportsplex, The Union Powerplant, and surrounding landscapes. This person will directly supervise a team of employees who will maintain natural/synthetic fields along with landscaping and parking lots at the venue.
This role will pay a salary of $60,000 to $70,000.

Responsibilities
- Plan and perform daily responsibilities of the game field at Subaru Park, adjacent WSFS Sportsplex along with the exterior landscape and grounds of the Union Power Plant, and the extended campus which includes mowing, irrigation, fertilizing, pesticide applications, field painting, cultural turfgrass practices, equipment operation, and snow removal.
- Effectively manage a pre-assigned departmental budget that includes but not limited to field supplies, rental equipment, part time wages and hours.
- Develop and maintain a fertilization, herbicide and fungicide program for all sports fields and grounds. Identifies turf grass diseases, weeds, pests and takes appropriate action to correct the issues.
- Recruit, hire, train and manage all part-time and 2-3 full-time staff members.
- Operate and maintain all heavy and light duty equipment, turf/landscape related equipment. Trains employees in proper use of equipment and storage.
- Foster professional relationships with Union coaching staff, players, co-workers, and tenants.
- Develop best methods of communication with Director of Grounds, and grounds crew, as well as stadium staff, Union employees, and stadium clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
- B.S. in Turfgrass Science or similar area of study and minimum of 5 years of professional grounds maintenance work experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
- Knowledge of principles, operation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of techniques of planting and maintaining plants, trees and shrubs.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Effectively operate computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and through emails.
- The ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs & ladders and pulling tarps.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Experience in the professional sports industry is preferred.
