What will I be doing? As a research fellow with the Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) Visiting Scientist Program (VSP), you will enhance your professional development and increase your research capabilities by participating in research initiatives under the mentorship of CIRG research personnel. The VSP will expose you to a work environment in a high security government facility and will provide an opportunity to perform research in areas of interest unique to law enforcement and national security.

Participant Benefits
As a research fellow you will receive a stipend as support for your living and other expenses during this appointment. Stipend rates are determined by the CIRG officials and are based on your academic and professional background. The initial appointment is for one year but may be renewed upon recommendation of FBI contingent on the availability of funds, for up to an additional four years. Please note that we are unable to accommodate short-term or summer only appointments at this time. The appointment is full-time during FBI's standard business hours.

The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOE, FBI, CIRG, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE letter of appointment and Terms of Appointment.

- Designing social/behavioral sciences research projects related to criminal, national security, and/or cyber threats
- Conducting statistical analysis of data
- Preparing and presenting research findings to diverse audiences, both orally and in writing

Participation Eligibility:
You must meet the following criteria to participate in the program:
- Be a U.S. Citizen.
- For recent graduates: Must have completed a Bachelor’s, Master, or PhD within the last 5 years in an eligible scientific field (see Eligibility Requirements below), OR:
- For current students: Applicants currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree must complete all degree requirements by the start of the appointment. For applicants currently pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD, the applicant must be within one year of completing their degree by the start date of the appointment. If your Master’s or PhD is not completed within one year of appointment, the fellowship will not be continued.
- Undergo an extensive FBI background investigation and meet suitability criteria.

- Recent unofficial transcripts or copies of the student academic records printed by the applicant or by academic advisors from internal institutional systems may be submitted to complete the application, if a copy of the official transcript is not available at the time of application. Transcripts/Academic Records must include the name of the academic institution, name of the student, completed/in progress coursework and grades. If you are selected, you will be required to provide a copy of your official transcript showing proof of degree before the appointment can start.

- Two relevant letters of recommendations
- One writing sample- applicant must be the sole (or primary) author.
