The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is offering a fellowship opportunity for a recent, or soon-to-be, bachelor's or master's degree graduate.
What will I be doing?
As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant and under the guidance of a mentor, you will have the opportunity to engage in a hands-on educational project focused on the establishment and maintenance of a Data Management Handling and Analysis Standalone Server.

What is the appointment length?
This appointment is a 12-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
What are the provisions?
You will receive a stipend to be determined by DTRA. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other provisions may include the following:
The sponsoring organization is the Test and Assessment Division of the Research and Development Directorate within the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). DTRA is a combat support agency of the U.S. Department of War (DoW). Its mission is to enable the DoW, the U.S. Government, and international partners to counter and deter weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and improvised threat networks. The Research and Development Directorate provides science, technology, and capability development investments to maintain the U.S. military's technological superiority in countering WMD and emerging threats.
About ORISE
This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE. Qualifications
The qualified candidate will have completed a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field within the past 60 months or expect to earn a bachelor's or master's in one of those fields by June 1, 2026. U.S. military veterans who have been honorably discharged (or who have been medically discharged because of a service-connected disability) and who received their bachelor's or master's degree within ten years of the desired start date are also eligible.

- Engaging in System Configuration including learning to configure a storage server that will analyze historical data and includes learning to set up a file-based system that will connect to several kiosk machines through a Cisco Switch.
- Gaining experience in System Maintenance including server and hardware
- Learning about Software Installation including installation of analysis software and the setup of Virtual Machines on the kiosk machines to enable the access of data and analysis tools from the storage server.
