Description

The Department of Defense (DoD) is offering a faculty opportunity at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command - Institute of Surgical Research (USAMRDC ISR).

What will I be doing?

This faculty research opportunity involves the development and translational evaluation of stem cell-based therapeutic strategies for traumatic injury. Under the mentorship of USAISR investigators, you will engage in hypothesis-driven experimental design focused on cellular therapies aimed at improving physiologic recovery and survival following severe trauma and hemorrhagic shock. The research project emphasizes integration of advanced cell biology concepts with preclinical trauma models to generate high-quality data supporting therapeutic mechanisms and outcomes. You will learn and participate in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of experimental data relevant to tissue repair, immune modulation, and functional recovery after injury. This project connects foundational stem cell science with applied trauma research to support evidence generation for future translational and clinical pathways.

Why should I apply?

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience to complement your education and experience and support your academic and professional goals. Along the way, you will engage in activities and research in several areas. These include, but are not limited to,

  • Accelerate trauma and critical injury treatment research via expansion of hands-on stem cell-based therapeutics.
  • Strengthen skills in experimental planning, data collection, and outcome-focused analysis within a U.S. Government, military regulated biomedical research environment.
  • Expand experience interpreting complex biologic and physiologic datasets relevant to trauma, resuscitation, and recovery.
  • Enhance understanding of how preclinical data support translational decision-making for advanced therapeutics.
  • Improve scientific communication skills through mentored discussions of results, limitations, and future research directions.
  • Increase confidence in applying quantitative reasoning and critical thinking to multidisciplinary biomedical problems.
  • Participate in collaborative research teams integrate cell therapy development with trauma outcome metrics.
  • Elevate faculty member skillset to promote current and future mentorship in these areas.
