What are the responsibilities and job description for the Educational Support Personnel (2026-2027) position at Oak Ridge Elementary School?
The Oak Ridge School in Sandwich is looking for an Educational Support Professional (ESP) for their Spinnaker Program (Cat. 2) to work with special education students in grades 3-6.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years post High School Education preferred.
Experience working with special education students preferred.
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal/Assistant Principal/Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Appointed on an annual basis
WORK YEAR: 183 days
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
General Expectations:
- Academic Instruction
- Work cooperatively with the teachers, supervisors, and additional ESPs
- Provide direct instruction of new material under the supervision of a teacher, if necessary
- Provide academic, social, and behavioral assistance in classrooms settings (e.g., classroom float, small group, individual, etc.)
- Assist with duties as required by the building principal and teacher to include assignment within a supported class, small-group, or with an individual student.
- Responsible for following individual student safety plans, IEP’s, 504’s, and individual health care plans to include the provision of accommodations (e.g., note-taking, posting homework, collecting student data, providing assistance with technology, etc.).
- Participate in district-assigned professional development
- Responds to emergency situations and potential conflicts with students (injured, health related issues, verbal/physical conflicts, natural disasters etc.) for the purpose of de-escalating behaviors and directing the situation toward a positive outcome which may include physical restraint.
- ESPs may be reassigned at the discretion of the administration based upon student needs
- Assist in implementing adaptive behaviors (e.g., activities of daily living, communication, physical positioning (may require lifting, dressing, etc.) and others as necessary.
- Work cooperatively with the teachers, supervisors and additional ESPs.
Specific Expectations of Cat. - Intensive Support/Spinnaker Program:
- Routine exposure to bodily fluids.
- Tasks that place the ESP in additional risk for contact with biological fluids such as feeding students, brushing teeth, toileting, and/or changing of soiled undergarments of a student.
- Use of DTT - Utilizing Discrete Trial Training (DTT) in order to provide direct instruction to an individual or group of students.
- Crisis Management - Assigned by school administration to be responsible for de-escalation of students in crisis.
FY27 pay range: Steps 1 through 8: $27.04 - 32.23 per hour.
