Position Summary
The Provider Inboxologist serves as a centralized clinical resource responsible for managing provider inbox workflows, medication refills, patient communications, laboratory and imaging results, and follow-up care. This role partners with providers, nurses, and support staff to improve efficiency, maintain continuity of care, and enhance the patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage provider inbox messages and prioritize clinical tasks
- Review and process medication refill requests according to established protocols
- Respond to patient portal messages and telephone encounters
- Review laboratory and imaging results and coordinate appropriate follow-up
- Communicate test results and treatment recommendations to patients
- Conduct telehealth visits for appropriate patient concerns
- Review hospital records, consultation notes, and external clinical documentation
- Support providers during vacations, leave, and other absences
- Collaborate with nurses, providers, and practice staff to resolve urgent patient needs
- Order preventive screenings and support population health initiatives
- Document clinical decisions and patient interactions within the electronic health record
- Participate in workflow improvement efforts to enhance provider efficiency and patient access
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
Required
- Current New York State license as an MD, DO, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant
- Minimum three years of primary care or ambulatory care experience
- DEA registration and prescribing authority
- Experience interpreting laboratory and diagnostic results
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
- Proficiency with electronic medical records
Preferred
- Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or community health setting
- Telemedicine experience
- Experience with population health and quality improvement initiatives
- Familiarity with eClinicalWorks
