Position: General Secretary / Administrative Assistant (Part Time)
Hours: 9 a.m. – 12 noon, Monday-Friday (15 hours a week)
Pay Rate: $15/hour
General Overview:
· Must be a Christian and represent both Oak Hills UMC and Jesus in word and deed.
· Must demonstrate a real love and concern for all people.
· Must show a willing attitude of Christian service to their position and its responsibility.
· Must be pleasant, discreet, tactful, and able of honoring confidential communication.
· Must have a general knowledge of office equipment and supplies.
· Must possess good telephone and communication skills.
· Must be able to deal with various types of personalities, both on the phone and in person, in a professional manner.
· Perform general office work, under the supervision of the Pastor and in cooperation with other church staff and volunteer servants.
Responsibilities:
· Answer the phone, take messages, and respond to emails as directed.
· Perform general office work, including keyboarding, filing, and copying.
· Welcome visitors, address questions, assist people as needed.
· Maintain supplies and files. Photocopy documents and assemble as needed.
· Retrieve church mail and distribute to the proper person’s box.
· Edit and prepare bulletins, newsletters, letters, mailings, email blasts, and other documents as requested.
· Prepare and maintain church mailing lists, email lists, and church roster.
· Keep records and compile reports. Accuracy and attention to detail is a must.
· Assist the pastor in preparation of annual reports.
· Maintain the church calendar. Schedule events. Follow church building use policy.
· Order office supplies as needed within the constraints of the annual budget.
· Keep staff informed of member’s needs, such as deaths, illnesses, and other crises.
· All other duties as assigned by the Pastor.
Qualifications/Experience
· At least a high school diploma, some college preferred.
· Some secretarial or office work experience preferred.
· Strong computer and keyboarding skills. Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, email blasts, social media, and Adobe Acrobat is a must.
· Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
· Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
