Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Oral Surgery Assistant to join our dental team. The ideal candidate will support oral surgeons during procedures, manage patient care, and ensure the smooth operation of the clinic. This role requires a strong understanding of dental assisting techniques, infection control protocols, and familiarity with various dental software systems. Responsibilities
- Assist oral surgeons during surgical procedures, including extractions, implants, and other oral surgeries
- Prepare treatment rooms with appropriate instruments and supplies, ensuring aseptic technique and infection control standards
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, while maintaining patient safety and comfort
- Manage patient records using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, and Epic, ensuring accurate documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Monitor vital signs and medical history of patients prior to procedures
- Provide chairside assistance with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance procedure efficiency
- Educate patients on post-operative care instructions and answer questions regarding procedures or recovery
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control protocols
- Support administrative tasks as needed, including scheduling appointments and managing medical documentation for pediatric dentistry cases
Qualifications
- Previous experience in dental assisting or working within a dental clinic environment is preferred
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical imaging, and medical coding is highly desirable
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic, or similar platforms
- Certification in X-ray safety and proficiency in taking intraoral images required
- Strong understanding of infection control practices and aseptic technique
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical setting while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills for patient interaction and team collaboration
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles is a plus
- Certification or experience in chairside assisting, medical terminology, or related fields will be considered an asset
