Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is reliable, adaptable, and thrives in a collaborative environment. A strong understanding of construction procedures, materials, and the bidding process is critical to success in this role. Experience with pricing, contract negotiations, and cost management is highly valued. We look for this position to be motivated in locating and building out new client relations as well as maintain existing relations.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze Project Documents: Review and interpret project plans, blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to determine the full scope of work and all required resources.
- Perform Quantity Takeoffs: Conduct detailed material and labor quantity takeoffs using estimating software B2W.
- Cost Analysis and Bidding: Prepare accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs, ensuring alignment with project scope and pricing.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Management: Lead end-to-end sourcing, evaluation, and negotiation of suppliers and subcontractors to ensure top-tier quality, reliable delivery, and project profitability. Solicit, manage, and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and proper scope of coverage, optimizing costs while maintaining high standards. Proactively engage clients and potential new clients to generate new business opportunities while nurturing existing relationships to maximize repeat business, identifying client needs, presenting tailored solutions, and ensuring exceptional service that drives loyalty and long-term partnerships. Leverage vendor partnerships and strategic procurement to deliver value, strengthen trust, and drive sustained revenue growth. Align all procurement and operational decisions to expand sales, enhance profitability, and foster client satisfaction.
- Risk Assessment: Identify critical project issues and develop a risk exposure summary with associated cost impacts to ensure profitable business decisions.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and owners to ensure project feasibility, negotiate contracts, and facilitate a smooth project handoff to the operations team.
- Site Visits: Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gather first-hand information on site conditions and requirements.
- Maintain Data: Help maintain cost estimating databases and track project performance to inform future estimates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred (equivalent experience will be considered).
- Proficiency or willingness to learn AutoCAD (or similar software) for:
- Takeoffs for bidding
- Building files for GPS equipment
- Design/build work for clients
- Experience with or willingness to learn Topcon GPS equipment/software.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster client relationships.
- Ability to Estimate multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel as needed (typically day trips; occasional overnight stays) for:
- Pre-bid meetings
- Site visits
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary: $85,000–$110,000 (commensurate with experience).
