Job Title: Instructional Specialist Exemption Status/Test: Exempt, Professional
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent
Dept./School: Assigned Campus
Primary Purpose:
The Instructional Specialist will serve as an on-site professional staff developer who collaborates with teachers to use proven practices in instruction. Specialists will provide on-site assistance using a variety of instructional approaches and interventions to teachers in response to teacher need and analysis of student achievement data.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Bachelor’s Degree
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of adopted core curriculum
Knowledge of research-based practices related to Instruction
Knowledge of formative and summative assessments strategies
Knowledge of the school improvement process
Knowledge of classroom management techniques
Interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) to build relationships with teachers, students, and school personnel
Experience:
5 years’ experience as a classroom teacher
1 years’ experience in instructional leadership roles
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide content and instructional expertise as well as on-site technical assistance and professional development.
Provide expertise in standards-based lesson planning and the development and analysis of classroom-based formative assessments.
Model lessons for teachers.
Conduct focused observations with “next step” support to teachers.
Collaborate in planning and co-teaching with teachers.
Assist teachers with intervention strategies and implementation of differentiated instruction.
Support Professional Learning Communities y modeling collaborative structures, providing professional resources, compiling and analyzing data, assisting in the design of interventions, and modeling and co-teaching best practices.
Provide technical assistance in collating and analyzing of data, for instructional decision making.
Assist with curriculum alignment.
Collaborate with a administrators to meet campus and District literacy needs.
Serve as trainer and modeler of effective research-based teaching strategies that result in high levels of student engagement and achievement.
Conduct study groups organized around professional books/materials.
Facilitate/Coordinate/Participate grade level meetings.
Keep professional learning journals and assist teachers in the process of developing professional learning journals.
Assist teachers and campuses by building leadership capacity.
Participate fully in professional development for coaches, including peer observations, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions.
