What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping and Receiving Material Handler position at O&Y PRECISION?
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Shipping & Receiving Material Handler to join our machine shop team. This individual will be responsible for the efficient movement of materials, components, and finished products in and out of the facility. The ideal candidate has prior experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment, with a strong understanding of shipping/receiving processes, inventory control, and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
proficient in reading BLUE PRINT drawings!! understands how to read NOTE requirements.
- Receive incoming shipments: verify contents against packing slips, inspect for damage, and record receiving data.
- Prepare and package outgoing shipments according to customer specifications and shipping regulations.
- Load and unload trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment.
- Deliver materials and parts to the appropriate manufacturing departments or storage locations.
- Maintain accurate records in inventory management systems.
- Coordinate with production, purchasing, and logistics teams to ensure timely movement of materials.
- Keep the shipping and receiving areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Assist with cycle counts and physical inventories as needed.
- Operate material handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Identify and report any discrepancies, delays, or quality issues.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a shipping/receiving or warehouse role within a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
- Proficient with shipping software, NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ DRAWINGS BLUEPRINTS!! dimensional drawings, inventory systems, and basic computer skills.
- Familiarity with UPS, FedEx, LTL freight, and international shipping procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret packing lists, bills of lading, and manufacturing documentation.
- Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand, bend, and move throughout the shift.
