Field Technician / Inspector / Project Monitor

O’Reilly, Talbot & Okun (OTO) is seeking a Field Technician / Inspector / Project Monitor for this position based out of our Springfield, MA office. Candidates will join our Hazardous Building Materials / Industrial Hygiene Team in OTO’s mission of providing responsive, economical, and quality-driven environmental, geotechnical, and industrial hygiene consulting services. We expect a Field Technician candidate to adopt our mission and reflect our values while performing the following responsibilities:

  • Regularly interact and collaborate with OTO team leaders, clients, and contractors to conduct hazardous materials (asbestos, lead, PCB, mold evaluations, etc.) inspections.
  • Perform abatement monitoring, air sampling and clearances for various asbestos and lead abatement projects.
  • Provide written documentation (inspection, visual and air sampling reports) for various projects.



The successful candidate will have the following qualifications/experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • Current Massachusetts and/or Connecticut-issued licenses for:
  • Asbestos Project Monitor (required)
  • Asbestos Inspector (required)
  • Lead Inspector (preferred)
  • NIOSH 582 PCM Analyst training (required)
  • Current driver’s license with clean driving record and own transportation to travel to work sites mainly in MA and CT.
  • 3-5 years related experience
  • Ability to speak and write professionally
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state regulations for asbestos and lead-based paint
  • Ability to wear a respirator and perform duties while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment when required
  • Ability to work as part of a team and individually with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 Lbs. of equipment throughout work shits
  • Ability to maintain and be accountable for industrial hygiene equipment and tools required for projects
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office, 365, Teams software



Existing members of OTO hold a variety of license and certification including but not limited to: Massachusetts Licensed Site Professionals (LSPs), registered Professional Engineers (PEs), Connecticut Licensed Environmental Professionals (LEPs), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Massachusetts Third-Party Landfill Inspector, Massachusetts Soil Evaluator, and Radon Measurement Professionals.


We also maintain Massachusetts and Connecticut licenses for asbestos inspectors, project monitors, management planners, and designers.


Additional technical experience a plus:

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZOPER

This position generally follows a standard Monday - Friday work schedule. However, some projects may require earlier start times or nights and weekends.


Salary is dependent on upon experience and qualifications, plus bonuses.
