JOB GOAL:

To help students learn the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards and objectives and skills identified in the local school curriculum that will contribute to the student’s development as mature, capable, and responsible men and women.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Mississippi Educator Certification

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  2. Plans a program of study that prepares students for all mandated state tests and as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of each individual student.
  3. Creates and maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  4. Prepares for classes assigned and keeps written evidence of preparation upon request of supervisors.
  5. Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
  6. Guides students toward the achievement of curriculum objectives and skills.
  7. Identifies clear objectives for each lesson, unit, and project.  The objective is clearly communicated to the students.
  8. Employs a variety of instructional methodologies and instructional media to compensate for the differences in the student’s rates of learning, learning styles, and physical limitations.
  9. Support, through instruction and action, the district philosophy and policies of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  10. Assesses the achievement of students on a regular basis and provides remediation and progress reports as required.
  11. Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students, initiates classroom interventions when needed and seeks the assistance of district specialists as required.
  12. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  13. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by administrative regulations, district policy, state laws and federal laws.
  14. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.  Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintains order in the classroom that contributes to a high standard learning environment in a fair and impartial manner.
  15. Makes provisions for being available and accessible to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to be so under reasonable terms.
  16. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s), volunteer(s), and works cooperatively with department heads in evaluating their job performance.
  17. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence by attending and participating in staff development activities and attending conferences.
  18. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  19. Accepts responsibility for the maintenance and accounting of textbooks, advises the principal on the need for replacement and selection of new textbooks.
  20. Maintains courteous, honest, fair, and professional relationship when dealing with students and parents.
  21. Prepares instructional materials for the substitute teachers in the planned and emergency absences of the classroom teacher.
  22. Performs additional duties, tasks, and assumes such other responsibilities as may be required by the building principal or superintendent.

 

 

Terms of employment:            187 days a year.  Salary to be established by the Board.

 

Evaluation:      Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the                                     Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
