Company Description : NYU’s Office of Global Services supports international students, faculty, researchers, and staff in the United States, as well as members of the University community who go abroad for NYU study or work. The office ensures compliance with immigration, visa, and mobility regulations in the U.S. and other countries, providing accurate and timely guidance. Team members deliver personalized services and programs that address the needs and goals of a diverse global community. The Office of Global Services also promotes cross-cultural understanding and engagement within NYU and in the broader communities it serves.


Role Description : The International Scholar Advisor is a full-time, on-site role based in New York, NY. This position provides advising and support to international scholars, faculty, and researchers on visa status, immigration regulations, and related compliance requirements. Daily responsibilities include reviewing and processing immigration documents, maintaining accurate records, and communicating complex regulatory information in clear, accessible language. The advisor collaborates with academic departments and administrative offices to facilitate scholar appointments and mobility, and helps coordinate orientation and informational programs. The role also involves problem-solving individual cases, monitoring regulatory changes, and contributing to initiatives that enhance the international scholar experience and foster cross-cultural understanding at NYU.


Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. immigration regulations and processes applicable to international scholars (e.g., J-1, H-1B, other nonimmigrant categories).
  • Strong advising, counseling, and customer service skills, with the ability to support individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal or policy information clearly and professionally.
  • Solid organizational and administrative abilities, including attention to detail, record-keeping accuracy, and effective time management in a high-volume environment.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and databases; experience with student or scholar information systems or immigration-related platforms is beneficial.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and campus partners, demonstrate sound judgment, and manage confidential information responsibly.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; a master’s degree in international education, higher education administration, public policy, or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with international populations or in an international education, global mobility, or related setting is highly desirable.
