The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Facilities Support Assistant position. As a facilities support assistant you are responsible for the repair and upkeep of the facility you work in, including most of its assets. Your responsibilities include performing a variety of routine general maintenance tasks, handling assigned work orders and Preventative Maintenance inspections, dealing with incoming work requests, communicating existing and potential issues with your supervisors; using your CMMS or paper records to log maintenance work, cleaning and maintaining the tools you work with, and abiding by all safety measures and policies. Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to complete unsupervised and unassisted projects. Excellent problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in basic mathematics and conversion of measurements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Light construction, carpentry, painting, plastering, flooring, ceiling and electrical work as required.
• Evaluating, repairing, and maintaining plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC systems in the building.
• Receiving and responding to customer requests of mechanical or maintenance issues on the premises.
• Solving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on various production and facility equipment.
• Troubleshooting mechanical breakdowns.
• Reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical procedures, electrical schematics, blueprints, service manuals, and work orders to perform required maintenance work.
• Assembling and disassembling/installing new machines, equipment, etc.
• Keep accurate records of time spent working, description of work performed and materials used.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma in relevant vocational training and/or GED.
• At least (2) years of maintenance experience in an institutional or industrial environment required.
• At least (2) years of general skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and preventive maintenance required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• (5) plus years of maintenance experience in an institutional or industrial environment.
• Electrical, plumbing or HVAC licensing preferred.
