NYGB seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills to work with the NYGB team in the critical role of Associate or Senior Associate, Risk & Compliance. This position will work within the Risk & Compliance team, as well as with teams across NYGB and NYSERDA, and report to the Managing Director, Head of Risk & Compliance.
Risk & Compliance is responsible for (i) the evaluation and monitoring of the risk of each individual investment and the NYGB portfolio as a whole; (ii) the identification and assessment of new and emerging risks and mitigation strategies; and (iii) ensuring NYGB’s internal processes and controls are fit for purpose and adapted to meet the changing needs of the business.
The position is located in New York City and may require approximately 10% travel.

Primary Responsibilities
- In partnership with the Investment & Portfolio Management group (IPM), which is responsible for originating, structuring, and managing portfolio transactions, to identify transaction-specific risks, evaluate and recommend risk mitigation strategies; develop and implement transaction-specific risk reporting and monitoring strategies; track transaction developments, and evaluate transaction modification requests.
- When applicable, assist the Risk & Compliance team (the Risk Team) and IPM in the workout and restructuring of stressed investments with the goal to optimize recoveries in ways consistent with NY Green Bank’s mission and mandate.
- Assist the Risk Team to prepare monthly reviews of investments on the Risk Watchlist, and to review IPM’s quarterly analysis of investment positions with the goal to identify early warning signals of potential distress and summarize such reports for presentation to NYGB and NYSERDA senior management.
- Assist the Risk Team to improve and refine NYGB’s internal investment risk rating approach and its investment portfolio risk framework.
- Monitor regulatory, legal, market, and industry developments and, together with the Risk Team, assess their potential impact on the risk profile of the NY Green Bank portfolio.
- Assist the Risk Team to manage business risks through the development, planning and execution of the Compliance Program; the development, maintenance, and updating of NYGB policies and procedures; and the leveraging of outside vendors to provide compliance services.

- A Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience; or
- An advanced degree in business, finance, economics, or a similar field with 1 year of relevant experience.

- An advanced degree in business, finance, economics, or a similar field with 2 years of relevant experience
- A demonstrated interest in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts and advocate accordingly.
- Unparalleled work ethic with the ability to perform under pressure and handle a large number and variety of projects in parallel, with attention to detail and time sensitive deadlines.
- Strong critical thinking skills, a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and a desire to take on greater responsibilities and leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and partner with IPM deal teams on complex financing transactions.
- An ability and desire to learn from others.
- A strong sense of professional judgment and ability to solve problems creatively.
- Experience with legal documentation and financial modeling of complex transactions is helpful but not required.
- Experience in risk management is helpful but not required.
- Experience in structured finance, investment management, capital markets, banking, rating agencies or another financial sector role is helpful but not required.
- Experience with renewable energy or sustainable infrastructure is helpful but not required.
