Job Summary
The Office of Mental Health is looking to fill a Facility Operations Assistant 1 position in Orangeburg, NY. The selected candidate will be part of the Hudson River Regional Revite team which is located in Rockland County. This is a full-time, temporary position with roughly 40% travel. The hourly rate for this position is $17.35 and the schedule will be Monday-Thursday 6:30 am until 5:00 pm.
Facility Operations Assistants will travel to various facilities to perform special project renovations, ongoing maintenance, small repair and environmental projects in one of five regions. The Hudson River region includes Rockland, Orange and Dutchess counties.
Responsibilities
- Assist with performing a variety of routine unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in one or more of the trades including carpentry, painting, minor electrical, masonry/tilework, and flooring.
- Follow written and verbal instructions, project plans, and schedules.
- Possess working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades to which assigned.
- Perform manual labor with the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- May climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms, and in confined spaces.
- Demonstrate the ability to adhere to OSHA safety standards.
- Assist in the completion of minor rehabilitation projects located at OMH facilities as assigned.
- Team travel within the assigned region to multiple OMH facilities
- Ability to wear a negative pressure respirator (N95), pass a fit test, and use other personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed to perform job duties.
- Assist with ongoing maintenance, small repair, and environmental improvement projects; perform general grounds keeping, landscaping, building maintenance, and painting as needed.
- Provide emergency response for floods, snowstorms, etc. as needed.
- Perform other projects and duties as assigned
Experience
These are labor class positions. There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. A Facility Operations Assistant 1 must be physically able to perform the duties assigned and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions.
Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is preferred, but not required, for these positions.
Additional Comments
These positions are part of the Hudson River Revite team that travels between facilities in the Hudson River area performing special project renovations, ongoing maintenance, small repair and environmental improvement projects. This region includes Rockland, Orange, and Dutchess Counties. The regional revitalization team concept was first adopted for the New York City region in 1984-85, and soon expanded to five regions that cover the entire state. The Environmental Revitalization Teams are made up of temporary Trades Generalist, Maintenance Assistant and Facility Operations Assistant 1 positions that perform ongoing maintenance and small renovation projects to augment facility support staff services. The teams operate on an ongoing basis, making visits at each OMH facility in the region twice each year.
Candidates are not eligible for reimbursement of travel costs.
