ITS provides operational support to state agencies on a 24x7x365 basis; some positions may be required to provide this critical service at any time.
Reporting to the Equal Opportunity Specialist 2, the Equal Opportunity Specialist 1 in the Office of Human Resources, Diversity, Talent Acquisition, and Retention will support a variety of recruitment, outreach, and DEIA initiatives. Duties include but are not limited to.
Minimum Qualifications
Six years of experience in equal opportunity, diversity and
inclusion, or human rights.
Qualifying experience includes working with organizations concerned with equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, civil rights, minority business development, or similar programs; or in recruiting, training, and upgrading the educational and job qualifications of protected class members.
Substitutions: associate’s degree may substitute for two years of experience; bachelor’s degree for four years; and J.D. or master’s degree for five years.

- Assist in the coordination and administration of the ITS Student Assistant Program, including processing separations, recertifications, location changes, soft deactivations, and name changes. Maintain accurate records and assist with tracking program activity and status updates.
- Support recruitment efforts by attending and traveling to career fairs, outreach events, and virtual recruitment activities across New York State.
- Research and identify strategies to recruit, retain, and promote a diverse workforce, including the use of social media and web based recruitment tools.
- Assist in planning and executing agency events, including but not limited to the MLK Book Drive/Food Drive, CDPHP Workforce Challenge, New York State Fair, and other in-person and virtual events. Support logistics, coordination, and on-site engagement for events and outreach initiatives.
- Run reports and assist in analyzing data related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and equal opportunity programs. Support the development of reports and metrics to track program effectiveness and inform decision making.
- Assist in the development and implementation of ITS diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives, including the ITS Diversity Plan. Contribute to the development and execution of actions within the ITS Five-Year Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan.
- Assist in developing programming to enhance employee cultural awareness and engagement.
- Participate in interagency councils, taskforces, and statewide initiatives that support DEIA efforts, including Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council (WDIAC), LGBTQ Interagency Taskforce, Annual DEIA Workforce Symposium, Disability Rights Employment Awareness Symposium, LGBTQ Convening.
