Duties Description
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program*
OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services;
OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.
NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.

- Perform all phases of electrical installation and construction.
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintain three-phase 120v/208v and 277v/480v electrical systems.
- Effectively communicate with supervisors and other trades workers, both when receiving and providing direction.
- Retrieve daily assignments and track accountable hours using the AiM work management system.
- Submit accurate and proper documentation in a timely manner.
- Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New York State motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Asbestos certification required within 90 days of appointment as well as compliance with all related PESH/OSHA regulations.
- Able to work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, platform lifts, boom lifts.
- Able to operate a variety of forklifts (OSHA certification provided after appointment).
- Able to lift minimum of 80 lbs.
- Able to read, interpret blueprints, schematic designs and circuit diagrams.
- Able to interpret National Electrical Codes (NEC).
- Able to work independently and perform duties at the journeyman level.

- Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.
- Candidates qualifying through the completion of appropriate course work should include a copy of their transcript or listing of course work completed.
- A copy of a trades union card is acceptable documentary proof of qualification.
- Candidates who do not submit appropriate documentary proof that they meet the minimum qualifications will not be considered for appointment.
