Duties Description

As a Licensed Practical Nurse on an assigned shift, you will provide professional nursing services appropriate to individuals served by the program to which you are assigned. Services may include, but are not limited to, monitor the health status of individual, provide appropriate interventions, and ensure proper documentation. You will also participate in staff training, prepare clinical and administrative reports, maintain infection control standards, and function as a member of a treatment team.

Temp Hourly Licensed Practical Nurses will function as relief staff to provide nursing coverage for assigned residential sites within a designated service area. The Licensed Practical Nurses role is essential to the health and safety as it pertains to the medical/nursing needs of our individuals residing in the community. With an aging population, their medical needs have and will continue to increase. A Licensed Practical Nurse will supplement care where additional License Practical Nurse coverage is required.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Temp Hourly Licensed Practical Nurse will provide coverage where nursing needs are high and staffing ratios are low. The Licensed Practical Nurse duties may include, but are not limited to injections, enteral feedings, wound care, insertion of catheters, ostomy care, and nursing assessments. Provides nursing care oversight, charts health status, transcribes physician’s orders accurately, and ensures appropriate medication orders and follow up appointments are communicated within the work location. This position will be provided a mentor for training.

NOTE: You must have a valid driver’s license to apply as travel is a part of the duties involved in this position.

CPR, First Aid, and Medication Certification will be required by release date.

Minimum Qualifications

Either A: A license and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State;

OR

B: A limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State;

OR

C: An application on file for a limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State. (You must be approved immediately following graduation from an approved school of practical nursing in New York State to qualify under this option.)

Note: If you are appointed with either qualification "B" or "C," you must obtain your license within one year of the date your limited permit was issued, or steps will be taken to remove you from the position.

All candidates must also possess a valid Driver’s license. Upon appointment you must submit proof of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. If you fail to maintain your license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State, appropriate measures may be pursued to remove you from this position.

  • If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.
