Duties Description
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assigning staff to repair jobs based on the employees' skill levels, maintenance and repair schedules and work priorities, and the preventative maintenance work to be performed; observing the work performed by team members and approving completed jobs to insure that schedules are met and the quality of work is satisfactory; training staff in proper safety procedures and enforcing safety rules; assuring written records of work performed are accurate and accounts for labor and materials used by the team; preparing probationary and performance evaluation reports and monitoring time and attendance records, including scheduling of vacations.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Qualifications
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
Promotional: One year of permanent competitive, non-competitive, 55-b/55-c, or labor class service as follows:
Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) or Construction Equipment Mechanic.
Open Competitive
One year of experience supervising staff engaged in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of gasoline and/or diesel-powered motor equipment, including passenger vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, freight and other commercial cargo vehicles, self-propelled off-road equipment, and non-self-propelled motor equipment.
At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, you will be required to have a valid New York State Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with no air brake restriction.
NOTE: Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal from employment.
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.
Additional Comments
The starting salary for this position is $65,506. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $56,506 with an additional geographical pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
The maximum compensation for this position is $77,603. This amount is comprised of the standard job rate of $68,603 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
In addition, a Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $1,650 or a Downstate Adjustment of $3,400 may also apply depending on the location of the position.
Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal of employment.
