What are the responsibilities and job description for the Highway Maintenance Worker 2-Region 7 position at NYS Department of Transportation?
Duties Description
The incumbent will be required to perform all duties listed in the Highway Maintenance Worker 2 job duties description as described in the Highway Maintenance Worker Series Manual that include but are not limited to: being a member of a work crew; operating heavier and more complex self-propelled equipment in Category Two and higher categories; providing on-the-job training to other maintenance workers in the operation of highway construction and maintenance equipment; providing direction to highway maintenance crews as lead worker when needed; and directing the performance of specific tasks as assigned by a Highway Maintenance Supervisor. When acting as a lead worker, they will make assignments, provide instructions, oversee and assist work, and keep appropriate records. In addition, Highway Maintenance Worker 2 may be required to supervise a snow & ice location.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have at least one year of satisfactory experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 and possess NYS DOT certification to operate at least two additional types of Category 2 equipment and at least two types of Category 3 equipment, (minimum of 9 certifications total).
Note: higher category certifications may be used in place of lower category certifications.

Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal from employment.

- Must respond to emergency call-outs within an hour during inclement weather, including snow and ice conditions, to be considered for the position.
