Duties Description

This position is with Region 6 Bureau of Fisheries.

The candidate will Independently coordinate and perform various field activities for several project areas or counties within a region, or projects within a statewide program area. Will collect fish, wildlife, and flora specimens for identification, abundance, size, and quality. Coordinate and summarize data collected from various sample collections/surveys. This candidate will supervise the construction and repair of habitat structures. Will conduct wild fish egg takes, reclamation, and liming activities. Familiarity with boat and ATV operation and trailering is desired. Must be able to work with a small crew (2-3 people) in remote areas. Position requires hiking and carrying gear several miles over difficult terrain. Must be able to lift 60 pounds and carry 35 pounds over rough terrain. Will assist in the preparation of media brochures and schedules, and develop and display public presentations. will prepare and deliver fishing education programs and post Public Fishing Rights boundaries. Will maintain, repair, and procure equipment, and perform intermediate GIS tasks. Candidate will supervise Fish and Wildlife Technician 1, interns, and volunteers.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program.

Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described.

Additional Comments

This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.

Must be able to work in remote areas.

Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

Travel may be required.

Overtime may be required.

Overnight travel may be required.

Weekends and holidays may be required.

Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds.

Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts at time of appointment or within 2 weeks of appointment.

Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
