Duties Description
The Environmental Engineering Technician 1 assigned to the Bureau of Air Quality Surveillance will serve as an integral part of the Network Operations Section and will be responsible for:
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter;
OR graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience;
OR graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry;
OR 18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying.
Preferred Skills (suggested): Undergraduate degree or course work in the life sciences (environmental science, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, environmental engineering, environmental studies) is preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in Microsoft Excel.

This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 12/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Travel may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

Duties Description
The Environmental Engineering Technician 1 assigned to the Bureau of Air Quality Surveillance will serve as an integral part of the Network Operations Section and will be responsible for:
- Visiting field monitoring sites to deploy and/or pick up sampling equipment.
- Maintain sample logs and chain of custody.
- Assisting other laboratory personnel in day-to-day activities related to air monitoring.
- Troubleshooting basic electronic equipment to diagnosis malfunctioning equipment.
- Programming dataloggers to collect incoming data from air monitoring analyzers.
- Aiding in the design and construction of new air monitoring shelters.
- Some duties may require use of a ladder.
