Duties Description
The primary responsibility of this position will be to assist with the enforcement of the Plastic Bag Ban Law by inspecting stores and issuing warnings and/or violations in the five boroughs of New York City. The incumbent will spend a large portion of their work hours out of the office, but the position will not require travel outside the region. Additional duties will include assisting with the Mercury in Cosmetics and Personal Care Products ban and helping with various regional educational outreach efforts. Additional effort, as time permits, will be assisting with normal regional office operations including the scanning/digitizing of technical records.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter;
OR
graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience;
OR
graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry;
OR
18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying.
Additional Comments
This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 2/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
