Duties Description

The Legal Support Analyst is a hybrid between the roles of a Legal Assistant and an Investigative Analyst. The Legal Support Analyst will provide support to the Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct’s (CPC) attorneys as they conduct confidential investigations into allegations of prosecutorial misconduct in New York State. The Legal Support Analyst will report to the Deputy Director of Investigations in the New York City office. Duties of the incumbent will include, but will not be limited to:


• Provide direct administrative support to office staff;


• Collect and verify information from interviews, public records, and digital databases to support case development;


• Maintain and organize case files using various software programs, ensuring all evidence and notes are accurately documented and coordinating with attorneys assigned to those cases;


• When needed, assist in preparing detailed investigative reports summarizing findings for attorneys;


• Assist with preparation of legal documents, conduct research, assist with case management under the direction and guidance of the Deputy Director of Investigations;


• Proofread and edit confidential internal materials;


• Proofread and edit external materials;


• Assist the attorneys with preparing exhibits for testimony and hearings ;


• Track and process expenses and travel documentation; and


• Other special projects as needed to enable the CPC to carry out its statutory mandate.


Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for this position are a bachelor’s degree. The ideal candidate will have strong writing and analytical skills, the ability to manage complete and highly confidential information, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and work on projects for multiple teams. Substitutions include four years of specialized experience or an associate’s degree and two years of specialized experience.


Preferred Qualifications:


One year of investigative fieldwork experience or one year supporting an investigative unit where analytical, organizational, discretionary and technical skills were utilized. The ideal candidate will illustrate strong communication, analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience handling confidential information.

The selected candidate will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation.


The Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct is an independent State agency dedicated to investigating prosecutorial conduct in New York State, serving to strengthen oversight of New York’s prosecutors and to hold them to the highest ethical standards in the exercise of their duties.


Pursuant to Judiciary Law §§ 499-a – 499-j, the Commission has the authority to review and investigate the conduct of prosecutors to determine whether any prosecutorial conduct violates state law or court rules. Under the statute, the Commission is authorized to conduct a full range of investigative functions, including holding hearings, subpoenaing witnesses, requiring production of documents, conferring immunity, and transmitting findings of fact and recommendations regarding sanctions to the relevant attorney grievance committee. The Commission is also authorized to make its findings and recommendations public.
