What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Facilities, Maintenance, & Tooling position at Nylabone?
The purpose of the Director of Facilities, Maintenance, and Tooling is to oversee and manage multiple functions related to building operations, equipment maintenance, and tooling maintenance across our facilities. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role will be based between our Neptune City, NJ and Monroe Township, NJ facilities.

- Provide strategic leadership to the Facilities, Maintenance, and Tooling departments to ensure safety, reduce quality concerns, and maximize equipment uptime and asset utilization.
- Establish a long-term vision for each department by developing roadmaps for future success, including departmental structure, headcount planning, and clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
- Review monthly repair and maintenance expenditures against budget and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Identify assets due for replacement based on repair costs, reliability trends, and expected service life.
- Ensure core utility systems (compressed air, chilled water, inert gas, etc.) meet current and future business needs.
- Coordinate, oversee, and manage repair and maintenance work assignments performed by internal technicians, vendors, and contractors, including machine repairs, building maintenance, landscaping, and janitorial services.
- Review work orders to ensure assignments are completed accurately, safely, and in a timely manner.
- Conduct facilities inspections and prepare related reports; coordinate and manage moves, adds, and changes; obtain and review price quotes for parts, services, and labor; and manage capital projects related to departmental initiatives.
- Prepare capital project plans, departmental operating budgets, and variance reports.
- Manage vendor relationships and train vendors on work order and billing procedures; ensure accurate invoice processing and proper cost center coding.
- Develop and deliver process, policy, and procedure training.
- Conduct financial and business analyses, including preparation of management reports.
- Provide direct supervision to employees within functional or operational areas, including recommending recruitment, selection, promotion, corrective action, and termination.
- Plan and monitor staffing levels and labor utilization, including overtime; prepare and deliver performance evaluations; mentor and coach team members to further develop competencies; and lead by example in alignment with the company’s values.
- 8-12 years of progressive experience in facilities, maintenance, and tooling management within a manufacturing, industrial, or distribution environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary teams, including facilities, maintenance technicians, tooling teams, and external vendors.
- Required: Direct experience within a plastics manufacturing environment.
- Proven expertise overseeing building operations, equipment reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and tooling lifecycle management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong organizational and analytical capabilities; demonstrated ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and professional service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success managing operating budgets, capital projects, and long-term asset planning initiatives.
- Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate multiple options in complex situations; strong analytical and quantitative aptitude.
- Experience leading safety, compliance, and regulatory initiatives, including OSHA, environmental, and applicable local and state regulations.
- Strong background in vendor management, contract negotiation, and service-level performance monitoring.
- Experience implementing, managing, or optimizing CMMS/work order systems and maintenance performance KPIs.
- Ability to make sound decisions based on a thorough understanding of procedures, company policies, and business practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to establish, manage, and deliver work unit and project timelines.
