Network Engineer

Job Description

The Network Engineer will be responsible to review and analyze the existing network architecture and provide designs of current/modern WAN/MAN/LAN technologies.

• Recommend best practices such as SDN, Intent-based networking, and network segmentation protocols, etc., in order to improve the existing architecture and meet new networking requirements
• Design telecommunications circuit specifications
• Identify the need for routers, switches, and encryption devices to support enterprise services
• Deliver service catalog items for automatically provisioning network configurations to deliver Infrastructure-as -Code
• Develop and maintain network architecture specifications and artifacts
• Designs and plans network communications systems.
• Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
• Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
• Conducts testing of network design.
• Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options.
• Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network.
• Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations.
• Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
• Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
  
  

The annual base salary range for this role is $105,000-$125,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.

Required Skills

• 2 years of Cisco experience; proven expertise with Cisco network hardware including: routers, switches, firewalls, unified communications equipment
• Proven experience in VMware environments
• Proven experience in virtual and physical Internet Protocol and Fiber Channel networks and routing protocols
• Proven experience designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting LAN, WAN and low bandwidth networks protected by network encryptors
• Proficiency in Automation Tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, or similar)
• Expertise in Software-Defined Networking (SDN)
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Familiarity with Agile Methodologies for iterative network project management
• Experience with Change Management Processes to ensure smooth network updates and configurations
• Knowledge of DISN (Department of Defense Information Network) or CANES (Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services) systems
• Proficiency in Visio or Similar Diagramming Tools for network design documentation
• Information Assurance Certifications consistent with the 8570 IAT Level III
