Nyla Nova STEMversity offers after-school programs, camps, Saturday workshops, birthday parties, STEM-based study trips, and tutoring services designed to help students achieve measurable gains. The team trains pre-service teachers and instructors to deliver customized, culturally relevant curricula that emphasize achievement and improved Science and Math performance.


Role Description The Tutor role is a contract, on-site position based in Indianapolis, IN, supporting students in STEM-focused subjects such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The tutor will provide individualized and small-group instruction, reinforce classroom learning, and guide students through hands-on, inquiry-based activities aligned with Nyla Nova STEMversity’s curriculum. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning lessons, monitoring student progress, offering academic feedback, and maintaining a positive, inclusive learning environment. The tutor will collaborate with program leaders and other instructors to align tutoring sessions with program goals, and communicate with families and schools as needed to support student success. The role may include work during after-school hours, weekends, and camp sessions depending on program scheduling.


Qualifications

  • Strong subject matter knowledge in STEM disciplines (e.g., Science and Math) and ability to explain concepts clearly to diverse learners.
  • Experience providing individualized or small-group instruction, tutoring, or classroom support for K–12 students.
  • Ability to create engaging, culturally responsive lessons that incorporate problem-solving, critical thinking, and hands-on learning.
  • Skills in classroom and behavior management, including maintaining a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Comfort working with students from varied backgrounds and commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural relevance in education.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including lesson planning, documenting progress, and coordinating schedules.
  • Preferred: Experience in after-school or enrichment programs, camps, or workshops, and familiarity with social-emotional learning practices.
  • Preferred: Coursework or degree in Education, STEM field, or related discipline; current or aspiring teaching certification is a plus.
