Description
The Field Mechanic Supervisor is responsible for overseeing mechanical maintenance and repair operations at NYDIG data infrastructure sites. This role provides hands-on leadership to a team of mechanics supporting power generation equipment, rotating machinery, and auxiliary systems. The Supervisor ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment while maintaining high standards of performance, compliance, and uptime. Need to be Waukesha VHP Certified.
Responsibilities
Supervision & Leadership
- Lead, coach, and supervise a team of mechanics and technicians on a rotating schedule
- Assign daily work orders and prioritize maintenance activities based on operational needs
- Ensure team adherence to safety policies, procedures, and best practices
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to mechanics
- Conduct performance feedback, training, and skill development
Mechanical Maintenance & Operations
- Oversee maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of rotating equipment, including:
- Engines, generators, compressors, pumps, and associated systems
- Supervise preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities
- Review and verify quality of repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls
- Support root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions
- Ensure proper commissioning and decommissioning of mechanical equipment
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all NYDIG safety policies, OSHA standards, and site-specific procedures
- Conduct job safety analyses (JSAs) and toolbox talks
- Ensure lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and hot work procedures are followed
- Maintain a strong safety culture with zero-tolerance for unsafe behaviors
Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate maintenance activities with operations, electrical, and site leadership teams
- Manage parts usage, inventory levels, and tooling requirements
- Assist with scheduling outages and maintenance windows
- Document maintenance activities accurately in CMMS or maintenance tracking systems
Reporting & Communication
- Provide daily and shift-based reports on equipment status and work completion
- Escalate critical equipment issues and downtime risks promptly
- Support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Waukesha VHP Certified
- 10 years of experience as a mechanic or rotating equipment technician in industrial, power generation, oil & gas, or heavy equipment environments
- Prior lead, foreman, or supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Internal combustion engines (natural gas or diesel)
- Generators and rotating machinery
- Mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical failures independently
- Comfortable working in a 24/7 industrial environment and on a rotational schedule
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background check and drug test
Preferred
- Experience supporting power generation, data center, or energy infrastructure operations
- Familiarity with CAT, Cummins, Waukesha, or similar engine platforms
- Experience using CMMS systems
- OSHA 10/30, LOTO, or other relevant safety certifications
- Strong understanding of reliability and preventive maintenance best practices
