Position Summary: The Division of Inclusive and Accessible Learning (DIAL) sets policy and manages support operations for students with disabilities. The special education services offered in schools include interventions and strategies in the general education environment as well as more intensive outreach services provided to both community educational organizations and to District 75 (D75) specialized programs.
The Assistive Technology (AT) Associate will assist the Director of Assistive Technology in handling the assistive technology device inventory, preparation of various assistive technology devices for students, installation of applications/extensions and software for the devices and scheduling the delivery of devices to students as well as the return of devices to the Center for Assistive Technology office. The Associate will provide support to school staff, students, and parents as well as the AT Evaluation Team. In addition, the Assistive Technology Associate will support day-to-day communications, logistics, and maintaining inventory- and logistics-related data, and ensure that students receive their devices in working order and in compliance.
The Assistive Technology Associate assists in providing significant services to the special needs community and coordinates with other offices and divisions. The Associate will consider the legitimate contrasting needs of different constituencies when interacting with community leaders and educators and responding to their inquiries, gathering necessary information on their behalf, connecting them to other specialized resources, and addressing their concerns. Responsibilities
- Communicate with AT supervisors, school staff, community contract agency providers, CSE/CPSE liaisons and Field Office personnel; provide quick, accurate responses to high volume of inquiries regarding student-assigned AT equipment logistics.
- Respond effectively and promptly to support questions and concerns from school staff, parents, CSE/CPSE liaisons, Field Office liaisons, CAT Team, and community contract agency providers regarding student assigned AT devices, programs/applications, and accessories.
- Act as first point of contact for Assistive Technology (raw) inventory receipt, processing, and storage.
- Schedule the delivery/pick-up of prepared/assigned assistive technology (AT)/Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) equipment.
- Prepare all AT/AAC (trial devices, impartial hearing orders, outright recommendations) for students, e.g., iPads, laptops, Eyegaze, and other devices.
- Maintain and prepare AT equipment to be used for AT evaluations by the CAT Team and community contract agency providers.
- Assist with non-working devices to determine if repair or replacement is required and arrange/coordinate as appropriate with vendors and DIIT tech support staff.
- Utilize inventory system (Gigatrack) to manage all inventory, including software, hardware, and accessories.
- Maintain mobile device applications via Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems: Meraki and JAMF.
- Organize training, support, and leadership for CUNY interns hired as AT technicians to support the department.
- Assign related tasks to CUNY interns; ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks.
- Perform quarterly inventory checks and monthly equipment maintenance.
- Complete data reporting on AT Equipment assigned vs. AT raw inventory, and other reports as needed.
Minimum
- High school graduation or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
- Education and/or experience, which is equivalent to “1” above.
- Experience providing ongoing support to field/office staff.
- Experience with NYCPS systems used in Related Services’ budget and personnel management: SESIS, CAP/SEC, etc.
- Knowledge of related services and other aspects of services for students with disabilities, compliance, operations, and/or special education service delivery.
- Attentive to detail, well organized, able to work under pressure, and meet frequent and changing deadlines, including last minute location changes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with education and non-education personnel, internal and external to the NYCPS.
- Outstanding organizational skills; strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Successful experience in a multifaceted complex organization.
